Physics In Golf Swing

Back in high school, you probably asked your parents or your physics teacher why you would ever need to know that stuff. The chances are good that they never told you that the information they were teaching you would come in very handy when you decided to take up golf! But physics in golf swing is very important. In fact, the entire process is based on physics in golf swing!

Physics plays a very big role in golf indeed. In physics, you learned about force and gravity. All of that applies to golf. As you pull back farther and farther on your back swing, the ball is hit with more and more force when the club connects with it. Think of the backswing as one of the old ‘rubber band’ sling shots you had as a kid. The farther you pull back on the rubber band, the more force the rock you are shooting has. It travels farther, and hits harder. Physics is used to determine your power when you strike the ball.

Of course, it takes more than understanding the physics of golf to become a good golf player, but that understanding will help you adjust your swing to get more power. Remember that it also takes more than power. You must be able to have that power, while controlling the ball at the same time.

Too often, people mistakenly think that hitting the ball really hard and far is all that is necessary. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long for them to figure out that this just isn’t true. Successful golf swings require knowledge of physics, a measure of geometry, and the ability to put it all together to keep the ball under control. However, understanding how to use physics in golf swing is one small step towards playing a better game.
