Tension In Golf Swing

Tension in golf swing is a problem that many golfers experience. The only tension in golf swing should be the tension used to grip the club, as well as the tension needed to hold your form. Unfortunately, many golfers forget that this is a game, and that it should be a relaxing experience. Unless you are shooting for big money, you need to learn to lose the tension in your golf swing!

It takes a small measure of tension to hold your form during the swing. But too much tension can and will cause you to actually break your form, and you may even miss the ball! Having all of your buddies laughing at you out on the course might cause some tension!

Not having enough tension is equally as bad. Your golf club could go flying across the course, or again, you could break your form, causing you to lose control of the ball. If you feel like you have too much tension going into your shot, stop. Let your arms hang down by your sides, and shake them out a bit. Stretch your neck and your back gently. If there is a great deal of tension in your legs, walk around in a circle a bit, shaking each leg a bit as you raise it to take a step. Return to line up your shot when the tension has lessened.

Now, with a more relaxed body – and mind – line up your shot. Think about the tension of your grip. Make sure it is neither too loose nor too tight. Now think about the tension that is required to hold your arms and shoulders in that magic triangle. Only use the amount of tension it actually takes to hold that form throughout the swing. This is the only tension in golf swing that you need. Any additional tension is unnecessary, and will only serve to raise your golf score!
